Digital Construction Excellence

Advance Plus (MWH Treatment and J. Murphy and Sons)  delivering capital investment programme for United Utilities
Oswestry WTW

The Oswestry WTW team face a significant challenge, delivering a £183m contract in 33 months, whilst maintaining a live existing site with uninterrupted supply to United Utilities’ 1.4m customers. Before the DWI regulatory date of July 2026, the project will have enabled a treatment throughput of 210 million litres of water per day, as well as enhancing water quality standards for a generation to come. The commitment to quality and safety is not just principle, but practice that drives right-first time success, creating a cost-effective de-risked programme and sustainable operational model. At the core of this approach is digital excellence.

Balfour Beatty
Digital safety

Digital safety has meant re-thinking and re-examining every element of our planning and construction processes to see how we can leverage the latest technology to make them safer. From our pre-start digital rehearsals, which highlight safety hazards at pre-construction stage so they can be eliminated, through to digitised permits, briefings and point-of-work risk assessments with videos and pictures, we have a clear digital chain of documentation for construction work, ensuring greater transparency and control. AI advancements are then taking these documents and combining them with incident data, to provide guidance and advice to colleagues in the field undertaking the works.

Chetwoods Architects
Chetwoods works

Chetwoods excels in digital construction by integrating innovative technologies and sustainable practices across projects and operations. Its dedicated Works team collaborates with universities and industry leaders to advance digital tools, including VR eye-tracking for user-focused design, Scan2BIM for retrofitting, and federated digital twin models for proactive building management. Groundbreaking research, such as the "Enabling Structural Timber in UK Logistics" report, exemplifies its leadership in reducing carbon emissions. Over the past year, Chetwoods has achieved 20% clash detection reductions and significant carbon reductions. This commitment to innovation, sustainability, and collaboration positions Chetwoods as a standout for this award.
